A man was arrested and charged for perjury after he opened a false carjacking case at the Greenwood Park police station, recently.
The suspect alleged that his vehicle had been taken by unknown individuals.
Upon investigation, police established that he fabricated his version of the story.
His car was found at a brothel in Umbilo.
It is alleged that the suspect had solicited the services of a sex worker at the brothel, and did not have the money, so he left his car as an exchange.
He appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
The station’s communications officer, Sgt Vincent Mthembu said the waste of state resources and time trying to find the culprits, who never existed, is unacceptable and punishable by the law.

He stated that in Greenwood Park during the last two weeks, they investigated three false cases.
Two of these wee carjackings while the other was house robbery.
“In all these three incidents, investigations revealed that their stories were fabricated. We condemn those, who open false cases as they are wasting police resources,” he said.
