St Henry’s Marist College has enjoyed supporting St Theresa’s Home over a number of years as part of their outreach programme.
St Theresa’s Home provides quality, holistic care and support to 75 boys aged three to eighteen years of age in their residence and rely on the support of corporates and the community.
During the school term, St Henry’s Marist College pupils visit the boys at St Theresa’s on Wednesday afternoons to socialise, help with maths, science and English. Time is also spent colouring in, doing craft activities or playing with the younger boys.
“Through our outreach programme, we have also identified other areas where our school has been able to assist via collections of clothes, shoes, school stationery and toiletries. We have also hosted the boys at our various school productions,” explained Mrs Sandy Batho, head of life sciences.
Earlier this year the lounge, dining room, kitchen area and two cottages were painted and a sensory garden and vegetable garden where created by the college team during their staff development day.
“Our next project involves painting the bedrooms of two cottages and arranging new bedding for the boys,” concluded Mrs Batho.
