A 36-year-old suspect was apprehended after super-sleuth officers from the Provincial Drug Unit uncovered a drug lab in Canterbury Road, Berea, on Wednesday afternoon.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala said the team acted on information regarding drugs for Tanzania that was about to be mixed, packaged and distributed.
“The team proceeded to a flat on Canterbury Road where a suspect was found in possession of heroin. The heroin drug was found in a packet as well as Paracetamol tablets in a jar. The drugs were about to be mixed and packaged to Durban areas,” she explained.
The total value of the recovered drugs is R600, 000 but once mixed, the value will be R2 million.
Further investigations were conducted and it was established that the flat was rented to be used as a drug lab to manufacture drugs.
The suspect will be charged with manufacturing of drugs and drug dealing.
