Berea intruder swiftly nabbed

Two private security officers have been praised for their quick response, which led to the arrest of a suspected thief. The suspect is now in police custody.

The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre recently received a panic alarm signal from a Berea premises and immediately dispatched armed response officers, Glen Mjoli and Wilfred Makhanya, who arrived at the property within minutes.

District manager, Ivan Govender said the officers immediately conducted a perimeter check and soon spotted a suspect attempting to escape from a window.

The suspect was successfully apprehended and handed over for arrest to members of the Durban Central SAPS.

“It is important to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals,” he explained.

Security technologies such as CCTV, outdoor beams and roof passives are often used to proactively prevent crime, according to Govender.
