Top Tamil classical singer to perform at festival

Othuvar Satgurunathan will enthrall large audiences at the festival.

A Thirumurrai Festival will be hosted by the Saiva Sithantha Kazhagam of South Africa at the Newlands Sivan Temple, 126 Hillgrove Drive, on Saturday, June 16, at 3pm.

This will be done in association with highly accomplished international and local artists. This divine rendition of the sacred Panniru Thirumurraigall (12 Thirumurrais) will feature an array of hymns and recitals from the devotional outpourings of Love for Lord Siva.

The principle artist with his melodious voice is Othuvar Satgurunathan from Coimbatore India, who is currently based in Tongaat.

He was also part of the four priests from Coimbatore who performed the consecration of our Siva Lingam at the Newlands branch of the Saiva Sithantha Kazhagam.

This was the first time in the country that an entire consecration ceremony was done exclusively in Tamil. He is highly trained in India and holds numerous accolades for such achievements.

Thiru Vasan Raajoo will also be performing on this day with his exquisite skills on the violin along with Thiru Lennie Pillay on the morsing.

The keynote speaker for this Thirumurrai recital is the renowned Dr Manasa Govender, who will  expound on some of the meanings of the Thirumurrai with a power point presentation.

Spokesman of the Kazhagam, Gopaul Pillay, said a number of workshops and chamber concerts will be planned in the future, in a concerted effort to promote our Saiva Thirumurrai, and our beautiful religion of Saivism.

It is imperative that people of all ages attend this Thirumurrai recital, more specifically our youth, as they are the torchbearers who will usher us into the future by keeping our culture, language, tradition and heritage alive.

Entry is free and supper will be served. For more information, contact Gopaul Pillay on 083-258-9328 or email [email protected]
