Talented Gordon Road Primary School girls showcase Easter art

Easter smiles: Kareena Mahabeer, Claudia van der Merwe (Gordon Road art teacher), Chantelle Jonathan (Gordon Road principal), Adeela Haffejee (marketing manager), Mahek Gandecha, Sarah Potgieter, Erin Gracie and Khizrah Jumoorty.

Easter at Musgrave Centre took a creative spin this year with the centre inviting local schools, that of Berea Primary, Durban Primary, Gordon Road Girls’ School and St Anthony’s, to submit art works which were displayed in the centre.

Each of the participating schools were given a blank canvas as well as art sets, where teams of six then worked together to create original masterpieces.

Marketing manager, Adeela Haffejee was overawed by the talent of the artworks from all the schools and based on the success of this year’s exhibition, will be inviting schools to include in their 2019 curriculum for next year’s art exhibition in the centre.

The winning team from Gordon Road Girls’ School found inspiration from nature, creating a symbolic metamorphosis featuring caterpillar to butterfly among signature Easter eggs.

Their artwork was selected by an interactive voting process through Musgrave Centre’s Facebook page, where they received over 700 likes.

Each of the girls’ from the winning team received SterKinekor movie tickets as well as a lunch at Nando’s in the centre.

Gordon Road Girls’ School also won exhibition space for three days at the mall, which will go towards their fundraising efforts, as well as the opportunity to promote their school.
