Pupils gain cultural and religious knowledge

Pupils of Strelitzia Secondary School who visited the SVEA Temple in Umgeni Road.

The Lord Ganesha Float Procession and SVEA Temple in Umgeni Road played host to Strelitzia Secondary School’s religious study group at the temple premises, recently.  About 70 pupils and their teachers visited the temple site.

The tour was the brainchild of the HOD in religious study, Mrs JL Jodhan. The pupils visited the Grey Street Mosque, a church and the SVEA Temple.  Pupils were given an insight into the various cultures and their houses of worship.

The SVEA’s guru explained the significance of the deities in the temple. Pundit Satish Maharaj explained the devotion of Lord Hanuman. The Isipingo Hills-based pupils were also treated to a scrumptious lunch courtesy of the temple.

Pundit Satish Maharaj speaks to pupils and teachers about the devotion of Lord Hanuman.

Lord Ganesha Float Procession president, Roy Moodley, would like thank the SVEA Temple for their time and effort in making the tour possible.  Pupils were given a package of religious items by the members of the Lord Ganesha Float Procession.

The Lord Ganesha Float Procession will take place on September 8 and 9, 2018.  This year, the organisation changed the schedule to add some glamour into the procession.

The float procession from Umgeni Road to the Durban Hindu Temple will take place at night. The two-day schedule will change due to the new arrangements.  This will allow all the participating temples to adorn their floats with colour and fairy lights. “It will make a spectacular sight in the night,” said Moodley. Devotees wanting to join this two-day celebration are welcome and participation and entrance is free.
