Praise and merit has been heaped upon the Durban Central crime prevention team after they speedily arrested a suspected rapist at North Beach, recently. The provincial police’s Col Thembeka Mbhele confirmed that the suspect was apprehended near the Star House Hotel.
“The 39-year-old suspect was found in possession of a pistol and five rounds of ammunition, a SAPS appointment certificate and a reflector jacket,” she explained.

Speaking to Col Mbhele, the suspect was linked to a rape that occurred on February 1, 2018 around 3am.
“The 35-year-old victim alleges that she was raped by the same suspect, who pointed at her with a firearm,” she further stated. The suspect was charged with rape and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition by the Durban Central SAPS.
Col Mbhele added that the suspect appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on February 5, 2018 where he was granted bail. “The case was remanded to February 16, 2018,” she concluded.
