Charles Hugo Primary bids farewell to Whitby

Mr TV Whitby.

Charles Hugo Primary School bid farewell to its much-loved and dedicated principal, Mr TV Whitby, who had been in the teaching field for 38 years.

Whitby (60) has been described as an outstanding leader and legendary principal, who always put the needs of the pupils before his own. Speaking about his retirement, he said that he plans to travel the world and explore Europe and Indonesia next year.

“The few days that I have been retired have been amazing. I am enjoying my time but will miss the school, pupils, teachers and parents very much. I will stay in touch and keep the relationships I developed during my teaching fraternity,” he said.

Staff members have described him as a well-balanced principal, who is always meticulously dressed in suits and goes the extra mile to make the school pleasing to the eyes with roses and flowers in bloom, regularly trimmed grass, freshly painted walls and a litter-free school.

Whitby said his secret to a successful career was involving parents in decision making such as school fees matters. “As a principal, I interacted with parents and allowed them to raise their opinions and they were taken into consideration during decision making,” he said.

“I will truly miss the relationship I had with the school, but I am not gone forever. I will be a phone call away every time I am needed to assist,” he added.
