Domenic King of the Combined Community Watch has once again proven his dedication towards eradicating crime in Sydenham and surrounding areas after he successfully apprehended a gate motor theft suspect, last week. According to King, on November 28 at about 4am, a gate motor was reportedly stolen from a home on Everton Road.

He was informed of this and immediately went in search of the suspect. He said that at this time, he received a call regarding another gate motor in the process of being stolen.

“The suspect fitted the same description provided to me from the first incident. I had to act quickly as there have been gate motor theft cases previously as well,” he explained.

King drove around the area until he spotted the suspect walking onto the N3 Freeway. A chase ensued and he managed to arrest the suspect following a struggle.

He handcuffed the suspect and then took him to Sydenham SAPS. While at the police station, another resident arrived from Raftery Crescent and stated that his gate motor was also stolen.

“After further questioning by the dedicated men in blue in Sydenham SAPS, the suspect pointed out a bush, where other gate motors were hidden. I wish to thank the Sydenham SAPS team for their intensive questioning and interviewing skills, which led to the suspect’s confession. Investigations are continuing,” he concluded.
