Pupils practice discipline through yoga

The excited pupils with their respective teachers.

Dr Macken Mistry Primary recently embarked on a pilot project to teach pupils simple yoga exercises, calming and correct breathing techniques.

This beneficial project is conducted by Anithra Jadoo, an experienced yoga teacher from the Alternative Health Centre and Peace Foundation. The enthusiastic pupils are learning to practise self-love, discipline, respect and gratitude in their daily lives.

The Life Skills teacher, Mrs P Roonarain, who initiated this project, said, “It is important to note the contribution of these relevant life skills towards the holistic development of pupils.  These skills will also create an awareness of the pupils inherent power, purpose and sense of responsibility towards their bodies, behaviour, environment and future.”

School principal, Pompey Sukool, welcomed this great initiative. “The benefits can be seen in pupils being more calm and receptive to situations. We appeal to individuals and businesses to sponsor yoga mats for these eager pupils.  This kind gesture and investments will contribute positively to a more empowered, productive, peaceful and self-motivated youth,” he said. For any contributions, Sukool appealed to residents to contact the school on 031-577-1072.
