Police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane said, “It is alleged that during July 2016, the man resigned from a consulting company, which offers a networking service to various clients. On August 14, 2017, the owners of the company received a tender document to capture on their computer system but were unable to open the folder that stored the information as well as other important files.”

A charge in terms of the Electronic Communication Act was opened for investigation. Lt Col Zwane explained that investigations revealed that a IP address was used to encrypt data and folders by using a ‘password protected’ folder. It therefore became unreadable to the complainant.
