Thousands attend Diwali banquet

The executive members of the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha.

More than 1000 people including cultural, religious and community leaders attended a colourful and grand Diwali banquet held at the Kendra Hall in Durban on Sunday.

Hosted by the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha, the proceeds of the banquet will go towards the sabha’s Feed the Hungry project.

The enthralling programme included a sumptuous meal, scintillating dances as well as top class entertainment by leading singers and musicians.

Featured in the star-studded line-up were Pundit Ravindra Joshi of India as well as India-trained Kumar Sailesh and Tharana Productions, Guru Sadha Munien and Party and Guru Samalan Saragaser and Party.

Swami Premananda Puri also performed at the function. President of the sabha, Ram Maharaj thanked all the sponsors, guests and artists who contributed towards the success of the Diwali banquet. He said the Diwali banquet has grown in leaps and bounds over the years only through the generous support of the Hindu community and its affiliates.
