Police officers display the drugs worth an estimated R3 million, which was recovered in the Eastern Cape.

Mandrax tablets worth R3 million seized by police

EASTERN CAPE: A 54-year-old suspect from Gauteng was immediately arrested after he was found in possession of mandrax tablets worth an estimated R3 million in Colesberg, recently. The vigilant and super-sleuth police officers were commended for their efforts shown in keeping #DrugsOffTheStreets.

According to a police report, Colesberg SAPS were conducting normal routine patrols during the early hours of the morning when they spotted an Audi car at a local garage on the N1. Police searched the vehicle and made the discovery. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was waiting for his accomplices to collect the drugs. Cluster commander, Brig Nomahlubi Sofika praised the officer. The arrested suspect will appear in court soon and investigations are continuing.

Two life sentences for rapist

FREE STATE: Tankiso Khoali (27) of Meqheleng, Ficksburg, faced the full wrath of the law when he was handed down two life sentences for rape, assault GBH and robbery, recently. Det Cnst Eric Thabiso Kobedi worked tirelessly on the case and due to his dedication, a conviction was secured.

Police stated that the accused would ambush his victims by waiting at night at the old Meqheleng Sports Ground. He was often armed with a traditional stick, which he used to assault his victims. He then robbed them of their belongings such as cellphones and cash. He would thereafter rape them. It is believed that he has been raping victims since he was 16. All along, his victims could not identify him.

However, his identity was revealed in June 2016 after he raped a woman and assaulted two men with the stick. One of the men personally knew him and immediately opened up an assault case which the woman reported the rape. The convict was arrested and his blood samples were positively linked to four rape cases.

He was also positively identified by his rape victims during an identification parade. Two of his victims went to school with him. It was a difficult case for Det Cnst Kobedi because he sacrificed his family time and had to trace the convict at the taverns and wait there the whole night without success. He also recruited informers who positively assisted during the identification parade.

MEC for Social Development robbed in Nyanga

WESTERN CAPE: One suspect was fatally wounded while his accomplice and a bystander were injured following an attempted robbery involving the MEC for Social Development, Mr Albert Fritz, recently.

It is alleged that two armed suspects attempted rob the MEC and his spokesman of their cellular phones. Police confirmed that the MEC’s bodyguards retaliated by firing shots. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has since taken over the case and are investigating further.
