Suspected carjackers nabbed with stolen vehicle

Super-sleuth Mayville SAPS Crime Prevention members swiftly arrested four carjacking suspects for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Sunday night in South Road, Overport.

The members, Cnst MS Rasool, Cnst Hlongwane and Cnst Ngcobo were doing their routine patrols in the area when they spotted a silver Mercedes Benz which had been reported as stolen.

The officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off. A high speed chase ensued between the police and suspects. The suspects eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall of a house in the corner of South and West Roads.

The suspects who were passengers were arrested in the car while the driver was apprehended a few minutes later. He had run on foot and had hidden in one of the properties in the area.

The suspects were detained at the Mayville police station. They will be scanned and profiled to see if they are wanted for similar crimes. They appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
