In an effort to keep Durban clean, the eThekwini Municipality launched ‘Operation Khuculul’iTheku’. In a bid to ensure that the level of cleanliness in the city improves drastically, municipal leadership and officials conducted a massive clean-up in the eThekwini Central Business District (CBD).
Operation Khuculul’iTheku is a long term multi-pillar clean-up campaign aimed at addressing urban decay, creating a clean environment and sustainable city.
The campaign focuses on the holistic maintenance of the city, including dealing with potholes, poor verge maintenance, illegal business, non-compliance with by-law enforcement, faulty traffic lights, dilapidated and over-crowded buildings, inappropriate land uses and illegal dumping.
Municipal workers went throughout the streets of Durban and picked up litter, and also removed illegal advertisements and posters. The community of Durban is encouraged to take care of their city by keeping it clean and tidy at all times.
It takes a concerted effort from all stakeholders to keep Durban clean and working with communities and business we can all create a city we can be proud of.
