Business robbery suspects behind bars

Two suspects, who were wanted for an armed business robbery in Flaherty Road, have appeared in court after they were arrested by police officers, recently.

Great police teamwork together with assistance from the Police Airwing and K9 Unit yielded positive results following the arrests. The suspects, aged 26 and 35, have been charged for armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

They appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court. According to police reports, on July 7, 2017, at about 4:45pm, the victim was at his business premises paying his workers when he was accosted by three men who were armed. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones before fleeing the scene of the crime.

Crime prevention members were patrolling in the area when they noticed suspects fleeing the scene. The suspects fired shots at the police and fled into the nearby construction site.

The Airwing and K9 Unit responded and gave chase to the fleeing suspects. The first suspect was arrested and was found in possession of a pistol with 16 live rounds of ammunition. The second suspect was arrested in a nearby bushes and the third suspect is still sought.
