High speed chase and shoot out in Durban North

A high speed chase and shoot out ensued on Percy Osborne Road on Sunday after a Marshall Security officer saw a suspicious black Mercedes Benz which was wanted in connection with other crimes. The vehicle was travelling on Soofie Shaeb Drive in Durban North when it was spotted by the Marshall Security officer.

The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle while notifying the Marshall Emergency Contact Centre. The vehicle that was spotted matched the description and the registration of a vehicle wanted for several other crimes around the Durban area.

The security vehicle which came under fire.

The driver of the suspicious vehicle noticed that he was being followed by a Marshall Security officer and fled at a high speed to avoid arrest.  The Marshall Security officer took off in pursuit after the suspicious vehicle.  The vehicle came to a halt on Percy Osborne Road.

The two occupants of the Mercedez Benz, yielding AK47 rifles, fired several shots striking the Marshall officer’s vehicle.  The suspects then fled towards Umgeni Road and evaded arrest. Local police attended the scene. An extensive search was done. The suspects are still at large and no one was injured.
