Speak your mind by Dr Guru Kistnasamy

We are entering a new year-2017. Is your life going to be any different during this year?

You can choose whether your life would be the same, better or worse. Have you made any resolutions?  It is not too late to start today to better your life.

Here are some common New Year resolutions adapted from Lifehack website:

  • Stay healthy. Eat healthier foods and have a balanced diet. Stay in shape. Exercise regularly.
  • Meet more friends. Network with new people and make your circle of friends bigger. Overcome shyness. Keep in touch with many friends as possible. Socialising helps you relax and enjoy company.
  • Earn more money and save more. Use the 15% rule. In any job you have, live on 85% of the salary. Save the rest. You will get used to it. Look at opportunities to make more money during your free times.
  • Become more involved in your community. Join organizations that promote worthy causes. Volunteer your services. Being a member gives you a feeling of belonging to a larger family whose goals you identify with.
  • Sharpen your communication and people skills. Be more polite and tolerant. The negative forces such as anger and hate can destroy you emotionally. Show more love and appreciation to family members.
  • Reduce stress. Stress is one of the biggest killers. It is often unseen because we tend to mask our feelings. Identify your stress and work towards finding solutions. Seek professional help if you cannot cope.
  • Read more. Become knowledgeable. Pursue a career. Use spare time to learn more about new subjects.
  • If you are single, now is the time to find a significant other in your life. You need to go out and get to know potential partners before you find the one that you really get along well with.
  • Spend more time with people that matter. Trouble makers and gossip mongers will drain your energy. Spend time with people who love and care for you, and people who make you smile and laugh.

Make 2017 a memorable year for you.

I wish you all a happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
