Hillgrove pupil takes on cluster policing

Wandile Mthethwa from Hillgrove Secondary in Newlands West was elected as the Junior Inner North cluster commissioner.

Hillgrove Secondary School’s, Wandile Mthethwa, was recently crowned the eThekwini Junior North Cluster Commissioner at a glitzy and spectacular event held at Ntuzuma SAPS Hall.

The grade nine pupil, who represented Newlands East SAPS, claimed the prestigious title among five elected commissioners who were competing for the final position. Coming in second was Nokukhanya Sithole from KwaMashu SAPS and third place was Nomcebo Nxumalo from KwaMashu SAPS.

The eThekwini Inner North Cluster stations complied with the national instruction to implement the Junior Commissioner Project at station level which saw the elected pupils being tested on various issues.

In the build up to the competition, cluster commander, Major General Nxabela, requested two nominees from each station to compete for the esteemed title of junior cluster commander.

Ten competitors participated and a knockout round was held. Five contestants made it to the final round. Competitors were excellent and showed courage and thorough knowledge of the debate topics.

There were three judges and the competitors were given points on body language, content knowledge, and persuasive language.
