Security guard arrested for urinating man’s murder

Cato Manor crime prevention officers have been applauded by residents after they arrested a security guard who allegedly shot dead a resident for urinating on the road, recently.

It is alleged that an argument ensued between the deceased and the security officer when the victim started urinating on Grammar Road on the night of August 27.

According to the station’s communications officer, Cpt CA Sibiya, the security guard fired a single shot in the man’s chest. The 31-year-old man then succumbed to his extensive injuries.

Following a tip-off from community members, the security guard was swiftly arrested and appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court where detectives opposed his bail.

“We again appeal to residents and security guards to never take the law into their own hands. Such incidents can be avoided by simply calling the local police to deal with such issues. We also thank residents who called our officers and gave the tip-off on the suspect as we have zero tolerance approach towards crime,” said Cpt Sibiya.
