Four arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

The firearms and ammunition which were recovered by police.

An operation by various police units yielded positive results after four suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, recently. This formed part of the #BackToBasics approach that police have taken on.

In the first case, two suspects were nabbed after they were found with an unlicensed 9mm pistol and a 303 rifle. In a separate incident, two more suspects were nabbed after they were found in possession of a shotgun and a homemade shotgun.

In addition to this, a total of 42 assorted live rounds of ammunition were seized. The suspects have appeared in court. KZN’s acting provincial commissioner, Maj Gen BhekiLanga said that this proves that police are rooting out all criminal elements in society.

“The arrested suspects will be profiled to establish if they are linked to any crime cases in the area. I am encouraging the community to work together with the police in this regard. In the last week, our police officers have recovered a number of unlicensed firearms,” he said.
